Head & Neck Anatomy

Uncategorized

This week was the beginning of the third and final section in anatomy. This is a very interesting portion of the course given the nature of the learning experience. If you read Stiff by Mary Roach, the issue of the head and face is addressed as a sensitive issue. The face is a very identifiable feature (here I tried drawing more objectively than characteristically), but it also covers a portion of the anatomy which houses a lot of valuable tissues. Today we set out to examine the muscles of facial expression and the facial artery (which branches into the angular artery) and vein.

In the following sketch you can also see the parotid duct running over the masseter muscle and then ducking under to enter the mouth next to the 2nd top molar.
